Non registration of Santro and Accent cars under the TAXI SEGMENT

MOST URGENT
DATE & TIME BOUND

March 4, 2011

Mr. Dilip Jadhav – IAS,
The Transport Commissioner,
4th Floor, Administrative Bldg.,
Bandra (E), Mumbai.

Subject: Non registration of Santro and Accent cars under the TAXI SEGMENT

Dear Mr. Jadhav,

Our Sangathan had received end number of complaints of taximen regarding the non-registration of Santro & Accent cars in the taxi segment without given any written information to the taximen.  We had already in contact with Hyundai Motors in this regard and we came to know that STA had not approved the Santro & Accent in the taxi trade segment.  They further clarify us that they had already applied for the approval of STA since 2008, but your office have not replied or act in this regard till date.

We are shocked and surprised that how and under what law or authority without any approval from STA, all RTO has had registered thousands of Santro cars as well as more than 400 Accent cars of Easy cabs under the taxi segment.

It is pertinent to note that your RTO’s are still registering the SX-4 & Desire model of Maruti under the taxi segment without any approval from the STA.

We would further like to draw your attention that your office has approved the Ecco model van of Maruti under the taxi segment within a few months.  On the other hand, your office has not taken any action on the Hyundai motors till date.

The STA had passed a resolution 5 months ago that less than 980 CC vehicles should not be registered under the taxi segment but suddenly after 5 months your office had taken a U-Turn and allowed the Fort Point (Car dealer) to register Maruti Omni van.

Under the above mentioned facts and circumstances, it is crystal clear that your office has indulged in corruption at large and playing in the hands of car manufacturers / dealers for their ulterior motives & we request you to please look into the matter personally and refer this matter to Anti corruption Bureau or State CID for further investigation.

We further request you to please start the registration of Santro cars immediately and stop the registration of maruti Omni van without any further delay in the interest of taximen at large, failing which we have no option but to take appropriate legal action against all of you at your risk and cost which please note.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,
For Mumbai Taximens Sangathan

Kanhaiya Singh
Secretary
